The issue of globalization has nurtured multi-cultural contemporary societies where people do not exist anymore as homogenous in terms of race, ethnic, tribal, or regional groups, gender, or various social groups, but they now coexist as heterogeneous units. This phenomenon reflects what is called cultural diversity, which is reflected everywhere, including organizations.
Diversity is Canada is reality. Canada is a diverse nation comprised of a broad variety, including the 50 distinct aboriginal nations, which were the original inhabitants of the country (Haq & Ng, 2010). Besides, this diversity has been magnified by the entry of French, the English, and other European groups.
My organization is diverse in terms of talent, gender, and where everyone comes from. We tend to share different experiences regarding perceptions. We integrate diversity into all of the processes of our organization, and this becomes a lens for focusing on, identifying, developing, and advancing talent. The video called the ‘Peacock in Penguin Land’ represents an illustration of the importance of workplace or organizational diversity, where everyone has a specific skill that can be crucial in resolving some challenges. In the said video, challenges emerge regarding the difference in individual background, but the ability to reconcile such difference and to emphasize everyone’s role in the organization provides a sense of direction and purpose in the organization. The video confirmed that we do not necessarily need to be similar or share similar backgrounds, or even opinions in our workplace and that diversity can be used as an edge to solving organizational challenges. By effective management of diversity, organizations actualized various benefits including, notably lower costs, low labor turnover rate, greater creativity, increased productivity, and staff satisfaction (Atyah, 2016).
