This Module’s SLP is intended to allow you to study healthinsurance status and access to health services in either your home state or yourstate of current residence. Using the “Health Insurance Coverage of the TotalPopulation” link in the background readings, examine the Table, Map, and TrendGraph for your home state or state of current residence. Refine ‘coverage year’choice to the most recent coverage year posted in the left side navigation bar onthe site. Address the following:
1. Summarize the key insurance findings regarding your state of choice.
2. Who are the primary payers, and to what percentage of the coverages?
3. What percentage of your state’s population is uninsured? Underinsured?
4. What does the trend graph show in terms of the public/private payers and theuninsured? Explain what is changing, for better or for worse, in the last fewyears.

Alabama is the home to approximately 5 million people. Almost 50% of this population living in the state gets its health care insurance cover from its employers, while 36% relies on coverage from Medicaid or Medicare. Further, almost half a million of the residents are uninsured. Generally, the healthcare insurance payers are composed of different individuals, and statistics show that the number of individuals obtaining insurance is reducing at a high rate.

The health care insurance stats of Alabama are presented using the trend graph above. The graph shows the different payers of health care insurance and the rates of the different payers. The statistics show data and trends betwee 2008 and 2018 as this was the latest available data. The top curve indicates that the graph presents stats and status about Alabama. The second top curve shows the trends of payment and representation for the population that depends on healthcare insurance cover by the employer. In 2008, the percentage was around 52% before dropping to around 48% in 2018 ("Health Insurance Coverage of the Total Population", 2020). It remained relatives the same until 2012 before falling and rising back to around the same rate in 2014 and maintaining in 2016.
