Ever since, training seminars have been one of the best avenues for individuals to learn new skills, build networks, and improve themselves in general. Knowing this I’ve tried to get every opportunity to attend training seminars, especially those which are free of costs. However, despite all of the related events that I’ve completed the one seminar that really left an imprint in my mind was one about self-mastery two years ago. During that event, the theme of the whole training was about “Building your own Personal Brand”. While it might seem that subjects like this are too early for a student like me, the instructor itself corrected me that this is not. Early during the event, he noted the demographics of the people in the stadium. While most of the delegates were middle-aged men and women who are probably working, a significant population of us were students like me. Noting this, the speaker commended us and told us how important it is to build our “personal brand” as early as possible.
Early in the program, the speaker asked us to close our eyes for a few minutes and listen deeply to the calm music playing in the background. While our eyes were closed, we were then asked to visualize what we want to be in the future. He asked us to reflect on who we want to be, what we want others to call us, and what kind of life would we want to live three years, five years, and ten years from now. This type of visualization training had then helped me gather my thoughts and focus on the “bigger picture”, just like how sports athletes do before training and competing (Neason, 2012).
