Defending the Use of Agile
The agile process is a project management method that details a framework to break down the project into manageable tasks. It focuses on new and easier ways of arranging and overseeing projects. Combined with traditional techniques, the agile process manages the entire project and refines the team’s unity, progress, and product development. The agile process employs multiple principles that enhance its success. The most critical principle is customer satisfaction (Business, 2015). This process is customer oriented and ensures the final product is satisfactory to the customer by choosing the right teams based on each member’s skills. Additionally, stakeholders are present at every step giving ideas and input to ensure the intended design and the quality of the product are satisfactory. The agile process ensures the product is monitored at every stage, guaranteeing the product's quality and customer satisfaction.
Differences between Agile and Waterfall
Although these two processes are usable, the primary distinction is that Waterfall follows a rigid and straight approach. In contrast, the Agile process uses a cyclic process that encourages teams to work simultaneously on different levels of the project, making it more flexible. The Agile method acts as a countermeasure to the rigid design of the Waterfall method because of its ability to incorporate various styles that are developed simultaneously, considering input from the stakeholders. However, depending on the project's scope, the Waterfall method may be a less complex approach because it is a step-by-step development process that requires the success of each stage before moving to the next (Blokdyk, 2018). As the Agile process is flexible, changing the design during the development is possible, but in the Waterfall approach, the design establishment happens before commencing its development. The Waterfall process requires large teams for projects, while the Agile methodology often requires smaller teams. A downside to having large teams for projects is that there will be reduced coordination compared to smaller teams that register higher levels of coordination. Given these differences, the Agile process appears to be the most popular approach.
