Consequences of Communicating Inaccurate Information
Communication is vital for the decision making processes in Criminal Justice. Inaccurate Information may present negative consequences in terms of an action taken. Recently, I witnessed a case where a wrong person was put in prison while the actual offender walked free. During the recent security patrols, we found out a group immigrant that was selling unlicensed goods. We encountered a language barrier. We had to seek the intervention of translation services to get the root of the message (Anonymous, 2004). The absence of verbal clues when conversing also affected the communication process made it difficult to facilitate full cooperation. We had a phrase translation machine. Unfortunately, the phrases were not perfectly translated. We ended up hand-cuffing the wrong person, but if we had a translator we could see the reactions of those affected and learn from the experience.
