Individual and group-focused work designs are different in the manner they are structured. As much as they may bring about productivity, it is essential to note significant differences in how work is conducted. Skill variety is a significant difference that is seen in the two job characteristic models. In an individual-focused work design, the combination of skills is limited to one person (Brady et al., 2019). On the other hand, a group-focused model offers various skills as there are many workers with different skills. Task identity is the other difference seen in the two job characteristic models. The individual-focused model does not offer an outstanding result on work as compared to a group-focused model. A job like carpentry requires selecting the furniture, shaping it, and cutting it would come out uniquely when many carpenters do it compared to one individual.
Autonomy is also a significant difference in the individual and group-focused models. The individual-based model gives individuals freedom as they can conduct their work in the way they desire. Worker can schedule their appointment and have the time that they require. A good example is that of a self-employed farmer (Brady et al., 2019).
