A vision statement is a brief description of the objectives of an organization based on the strategic prediction formulated to guide and direct its decision-making. It provides answers to the question about the existence of the organization. This paper describes Tesla, Inc. and its vision statement. It also analyzes and discusses the attributes that make the vision meaningful and evaluates whether the vision statement supports organizational transformation.
Description of Tesla, Inc. and its Vision Statement
Tesla, Inc. was constituted in 2003 by some engineers whose intention was to prove that it was not essential for people to compromise or drive electric vehicles (ROWLAND, 2018). They believed that the cars could be superior, move faster, and have more fun driving electric cars than gasoline-fueled ones. Tesla is determined to create sustainable automobile technology. Tesla vehicle assembling factory is based in Giga-factory Shanghai and Fremont, California. It manufactures electric vehicles and products like Power-pack, Power wall, and Solar Roof that generate immeasurably scalable renewable energy. Tesla believes that the earlier the world will stop depending on gasoline fuels and makeovers to a future with no harmful emissions, the better.
The vision statement of Tesla is; "to create the most compelling car company of the 21st century by driving the world's transition to electric vehicles." The vision statement emphasizes the focus of the company, which is on clean energy. The vision statement outlines Tesla's route of organizational progress. The company explicitly addresses the market for electric cars as the foremost opportunity to facilitate the growth of the world clean energy market.
Attributes Making Organizational Vision Meaningful
Tesla's vision statement consists of four attributes that make the vision meaningful (ROWLAND, 2018). The first attribute is that the vision statement states the company's future aim of becoming the most compelling car maker. This attribute indicates direction and superbness in the corporation. Tesla approaches its purpose by incorporating advanced technology and expertise in its electronic cars and associated products. The second attribute of Tesla's vision statement focuses on its determination to design and make electric cars. Thirdly, the 21st attribute is satisfied by the company's management in designing and producing electric vehicles and their related products. This attribute suggests that the company uses advanced technology in addressing the present concerns like the conservation of the environment.
