A Leader in a Crisis Scenario
Effective leadership is one of the strategies, which facilitate the attainment of set goals in a business or organization. However, poor leadership strategies might be one of the major barriers in the process of attaining the set objectives. In my case, I work as a swim trainer and lifeguard in one of the Boys and Girls Club. One of the common occurrences is parents failing to be observant in watching their children’s activities at the pool. Over time, such scenarios have become overwhelming. One of the recent scenarios was a two-year-old kid, who drowned at the swimming pool. Lifeguards and managers are the main leaders involved in such incidents. In most instances, medical practitioners, instructors, and lifesavers utilize the information available in preventing any forms of emergencies. Therefore, installing surveillance cameras can help lifeguards in conducting their duties.
Apply and explain Jordan-Meier’s four fundamental stages of the crisis.
Leaders can utilize Jordan-Meier’s fundamental stages in addressing such a crisis. Stage one involves a spotlight beaming squarely on the incident. In the case of working as a swim trainer and lifeguard, the breaking news was the drowning of a toddler because of the mother’s carelessness and involved leaders. It is apparent that it only took a short period for the incident to spread.
According to Cao, Zhu, Han, and Zhu (2018), stage two involves a focus on the victims and the most appropriate response. In the aforementioned case study, new facts would emerge in regard to the drowning incident. Cook (2015) avers that swimming accidents can contribute to the sacking of the responsible persons in an organization. The organization implemented effective mechanisms, such as hiring swimmers to rescue the drowning child. Arguably, the second stage of disaster management involves forming a reputation with a focus of utilizing all the possible mediums. According to reports, the parents and some of the leaders in the organization were the main of the occurrence of the emergency. However, the child victim would not explain in-depth his drowning experience.
Stage three involves a blaming stage with the main concern being what could have transpired and the reason for the occurrence. In the scenario of drowning crisis, the leaders blamed each other. However, it is the mother’s negligence that played a significant part in the incident. To resolve a crisis, one needs to involve relevant stakeholders. Lastly, stage four includes finding a solution to the problem (Cao et al., 2018). The fourth stage marks the end of the crisis with the key focus being finding the way forward.
What happened during the crisis?
Drowning cases at the Boys and Girls Club were caused by the negligence of most mother’s. Researchers posit...
