My Grandfather
Christopher Martin, a riddim songs artists, said in his 2014 song "Let Her Go" that you only miss the sun when it starts to snow ("Christopher Martin - Let Her Go Lyrics," 2014). I have seen the reality in this figurative speech. I had never had enough time to think about the inspiration my grandfather gave me before he died. Sadly, I feel I never took the lessons seriously until he died. His death gave me time to revisit his life, sacrifices, and advice, which I mostly viewed as usual talk. His influence was so strong that I miss him all the time.
My best friend was my grandfather when I was under ten years. He would narrate several stories of how life was when he was young. I often laughed at him when he said they used to go a whole day without a meal because his parents (my great grandparents) could not provide enough food for them. The inspiring part that I never understood until his death when I was 14 years is when he said he vowed to work hard so that his children (my father and his siblings) enjoy a better life and never miss a meal. This is great wisdom, and I swore never to let down his hard work since my father demonstrated it too. We live a comfortable life because of the inspiration from my grandfather.
A lesson that I learned passively is the need for family love and unity. I never found my grandparents on bad terms throughout my interaction with them—the same thing with my parents. One day, I asked him why he never fights with my grandma like our neighbor coupl...
