"The Rebellion of Túpac Amaru" is a secondary source by historian Alberto Flores Galindo. "All Must Die" includes a source written by José Antonio de Areche, the Spanish magistrate who arranged the execution of Túpac Amaru. “What is an Indian?” is an excerpt of an account of the rebellion written by Melchor de Paz, a criollo employed by the Spanish administration; it contains a proclamation written by Túpac Amaru himself. The "Letters of Insurrection" feature documents of the communities from the area that today is Bolivia that include the voice of community authorities and local priests and shows the uses of literacy in the uprising.

The conquest of the Inca Empire was one of the successful battles that the Spanish regime engaged in. However, they had to defeat Tupac Amaru who was the leader of the Tupac Amaru rebellion before claiming victory. Tupac Amaru died in that final battle but later became a mythical figure for Peruvians during the struggle for indigenous rights and independence. This paper seeks to examine who was Tupac Amaru and what were his goals in the battle against the Spanish regime.
Born in 1545 as Jose Gabriel Tupac Amaru, he was the last Incan ruler to ever live. He inherited his father’s lands and thus had influence across the indigenous communities. However, his insurrection fully occurred after the execution of De Arriaga. Tupac Amaru said that “the kingdom belonged to him because in the titles and decrees, he was the fourth grandson of the last Inca” (Bacich, 2007) Therefore, he viewed the Spanish regime as a threat to his property and those of the natives...
