Introduction
The conquest of the Inca Empire was one of the successful battles that the Spanish regime engaged in. However, they had to defeat Tupac Amaru who was the leader of the Tupac Amaru rebellion before claiming victory. Tupac Amaru died in that final battle but later became a mythical figure for Peruvians during the struggle for indigenous rights and independence. This paper seeks to examine who was Tupac Amaru and what were his goals in the battle against the Spanish regime.
Born in 1545 as Jose Gabriel Tupac Amaru, he was the last Incan ruler to ever live. He inherited his father’s lands and thus had influence across the indigenous communities. However, his insurrection fully occurred after the execution of De Arriaga.
