Narrative Paper Handout (15 pts)

Choose an event in your life that impacted you or changed your thinking in some way.  No deaths or car accidents, please!  While this is a safe environment, I am still going to grade these objectively, and some stories, while they need to be told, should not be graded.  Choose an interesting event that taught you something, caused you to change your mind, or caused you to change your behavior.  Remember, it can be a large event or a small one, but you must be able to relate the event in a rough draft of 900-1000 words.

Choose an event you might write about, and answer the following questions: (You do not need to write in complete sentences; lists and bullet points are fine.)Where did this event take place?  Describe the setting(s) using at least 3 of the 5 senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch).
Was there dialogue involved in this event? If so, try to remember as much of it as you can.  (If you have to guesstimate, that’s OKAY, as long as you capture the gist of what was said.)
Briefly describe or outline the beginning, middle, and end of the event.  You may make a list or draw a timeline. (Use the back of this sheet.)

On several occasions, I saw blood oozing out of my hands because of the numerous physical activities that were meant to strengthen my physical body, as well as my inner being.
On this material day, thousands of fans were seated in the hall ready to watch the contests begin. As I sat next to my coach, I could hear my heart beat so first. I was so restless, and my coach realized this. The put his hands on my shoulder and whispered in my ear, "this is the time to give your best."These words gave me the strength to relax my nerves and keep my eyes focused. The crowd was on fire, and they kept chanting songs in the podium. A bench of five judges was seated just beside the podium, with each looking ready for the event. Besides the podium was a section of teams that had come for the competitions. Each team had put their participants in a warm up session, and that scared me.
As I sat on the bench beside my coach, something came up in mind. I remembered the words of my father. He told me that since I had made the choice of participating in such an event, I should be ready for the outcomes. Winning or getting involved in a judo contest is not a natural thing. It is for the strong and the determined people. I compared this to a life event as I stood up to open the first match. I have always fought every second of my life to achieve my goals in life. Even when I don’t make it, I took the courage in life to try. These words kept on running in my mind as I enter...
