The article “Mughal painting, patrons and painters” by S.P. Verma explores the role of patrons and painters in the emergence and development of Mughal paintings. Several key ideas have been discussed focusing majorly on the primary characteristics o these paintings. First, the Mughal paintings have been characterized as predominated by religion. Verma (2000) begins by expressing that Indian patrons overwhelmingly looked for religious texts and often preferred illustrating the same subjects and themes of the same manuscript. Therefore, it can be argued that Mughal paintings had their attributes dictated by the patrons since most were developed based on the interests and orders of the patrons.
