Spirituality in Patient Care
My worldview of spirituality is the individual’s perceptions of the universe manifested through beliefs, norms, and practices. Additionally, spirituality comprises experiential, cognitive, and behavioral aspects (Sena et al., 2018). Beliefs are regarded as the cognitive dimension where there is an affirmation of something considered real. Depending on the religion and culture, the beliefs revolve around the existence of an omnipotent being with the power to control all aspects of human life. The norms and practices correspond to the behavioral aspect where individuals engage in such activities as prayer and meditation, often as a means of connecting with the omnipotent being. With the cognitive and behavioral elements, human experiences are shaped through the interaction of the individual with the object of spirituality. Therefore, my worldview of spirituality is that it brings faith, hope, empowerment, and peace to the individual.
