The Use of the Internet Is Disrupting our Thought Process
The use of technology is a very popular topic in the world of today. There are those who support the use of the internet while others argue that it is doing more harm than good. In “More Screen Time for Kids Who Create Instead of Watch,” K. J. Dell’Antonia argues that there is so much good that computers have to offer. She argues that children should be allowed to use technology, but for creating purposes only (Dell’Antonia, 2011). They should not concentrate on watching and playing, but creating new things out of their interactions with computers. She further adds that it is the interest in using technology for creative purposes that will lead to the desire in joining technology-related careers (Dell’Antonia, 2011). However, in “Is the Internet Making Us Stupid?” Nicholas Carr points out that the internet is making people to become lazy and less thoughtful. He highlights that many people are relying heavily on the information provided by the internet and, as a result, it is making people to avoid reading and being critical thinkers (NPR, 2008). After analyzing both writers, I choose to agree with Carr that the internet is making us less thoughtful in reading.
While the internet is credited for making available a lot of information in a very fast fashion, it is unfortunate that many people are not using that information thoughtfully. Instead of reading information keenly and in a thoughtful way, they are skimming through, leaving a lot of valuable information.
