The book glittering images is a compilation of pieces of art by Camille Paglia. In this book, the writer uses the different short stories to express and show the development of art in the current society and bring out various themes of her interest. We can say that the author wants to bring about the evolution in the word of art from the ancient days to the current society and to show the need to continue embracing art in modern society. This paper will look at different issues and concerns by the author in her writing concerning the contemporary art.
To begin with, Paglia expresses her concerns over modern life. She feels the contemporary society is less interested in the work of art. Children and people at large do not find pleasure in reading the work or artist at all. She feels that technology, that is, electronic games and devices, have replaced the interest in artwork, and museums have also shifted to things that attract the public. This brings out her concern for the future of artists and artwork. Will they be able to survive in the current society if the trend continues? This is a major concern that the author has. She points this out in order to try and help the art and artists society find a solution to the changing trend. And also to express her concerns over the importance of having and preserving artwork. With this current trend, there has been a declining number in the work of art produced and even the number of artists. This is because of the lack of proper promotion of artwork and lack of interest in artwork, which has demoralized artists.
