The impact of climate change on minorities
Introduction
The establishment of social protection systems requires the involved parties to address the supremacy imbalance that exists between the vulnerable and the broad population. However, the opposite is true because minorities have been completely left out of political and economic structures that define our society. In fact, they are the ones who mostly suffer from climatic change yet it is the wealthy who own chemical plants that emit gases in the atmosphere. That suffering can be attributed to the fact that minorities reside in polluted environments that experience rapid climatic change. In this reflection, I will define environmental justice and respond to the notion that “climatic change most adversely affects our nation’s most vulnerable population.”
Definition
Environmental justice is the meaningful and impartial involvement of all individuals in the implementation and enforcement of climate regulations regardless of race or income. The concept of environmental justice was first used in the United States in the early 1980s to describe how some Americans were overburdened with climatic consequences because of their color, income, and geographic location.
