Towards global cooperation in tackling climate change
Over the last few decades, climate change has increasingly become a global concern. As a result, many countries have joined forces to combat climate change and secure the future of the universe.
The signing of the Paris Agreement at COP21 in December 2015 by 175 countries was a landmark achievement. All countries came together to address climate change through both mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change. The countries also agreed to render more support to developing countries to ensure that the response to the threat of climate change was stronger.
Yet, countries are still struggling in responding to climate change, despite the high level of collaboration.
Just last week, during the COP25 conference in Madrid, it was revealed that countries are having a difficult time responding to climate change, partly because of the failure to resolve differences between countries in their approach to the issue. The Chilean presidency was said to have set very low ambitions, which did not sit well with other countries that have high ambitions on carbon reduction.
What has been achieved so far?
Little has been achieved in the fight against climate change, despite the promises that were highlighted in the Paris Agreement.
