The Strength of a Woman Writing Assignment

Essay Instructions:

Finally, I would like you to write a narrative essay about an important family member or family-like person in your life. Narrative means story, so this essay should be, like Steiker’s, composed of stories about your interactions with this person and how they taught, helped, challenged, inspired, and maybe at times also hurt you. No one is perfect, after all. Your essay, like Steiker’s, can also involve stories from your person’s own history and the special ways in which they invited you to share in their lives. I would like three focused pages that, in addition to telling stories about someone to fulfill an assignment, give your reader a clear understanding of the ideas and values you gathered from this person.

My grandmother was a child of her father’s fourth wife and being the youngest her children were also young and none had attained the circumcision age. My grandmother was the first-born daughter of her mother and their rest were boys making a family of five children. Her father was a wealthy man capable of taking care of all his children. His older wives and their children worked on the farm and they obtained different farm products. The land was fertile and therefore the produce was in plenty. In addition to the farm produce, there was also milk and meat from the cows and goats to supplement the diet.
One morning however in the life of my grandmother things took a different turn as her mother was found dead in her hat. The sudden death shocked everyone because she had died at a tender age and had not shown any sign of being sick. My grandmother, her three siblings, and her father cried furiously over the death of their mother but nothing would be changed. The younger brother could not even cry because he knew little of what was happening at the time. After mourning their mother, my grandmother at a tender age took the tough role of being the mother of her four siblings because her mother was no longer there.
The days and the nights seemed longer for my grandmothe...
