Social media began as an avenue for keeping in touch with friends and family; however, today, it offers marketers several ways to engage and reach customers. Social media has billions of users worldwide, with a platform such as Facebook recording 2.38 billion active subscribers every month (Facebook, 2019). Given the potential customers on social media for hours daily, its integration in most facets of their lives such as travel, employment, food, and music and with social media functionality expanding to include things such as Facebook marketplace, marketers have endless opportunities to target potential consumers thus, achieve their goals (Appel, Grewal, Hadi & Stephen, 2020, pp. 80).
