Story Analysis: The Seqirus and CSL Shares

Essay Instructions:

Read the first 10 pages the CSL annual report (I have uploaded in the file) and then, focusing on the Chairman and CEO’s Letter, critically analyse the Letter from a communication perspective, principally considering how well you think it tells the CSL corporate story.
As a guide, you might like to bring into your commentary some of these points:
• Did you get a good understanding of CSL’s story and if not, comment on what should have been covered and information you would like to have known that would improve your understanding of the story
• Did the Chairman and CEO commentary give you confidence about the company’s direction and future and did they inspire you to become an investor?
• Did you feel critical pieces of information were left out of the Letter?
• Did the Letter give you an understanding of CSL’s competitive position, risk and social issues affecting the business?
As background to the assignment you might recall from seminars the components of a company story are what a company does, its history and special characteristics, strategy, how it makes money, financial performance, operating context and outlook.

Story Analysis
For the most part, I did get a good understanding of the CSLs story. I understood the company values, focus, and strategies through the letter. I also understood the company's headquarters location, mode of operation, the countries it operates, their Covid-19 approach for their employees, their patients, and their significant strides in manufacturing. I also got a clear view of their finances, including revenue, expenditure, profits and dividends, their modes of dividend payment, and their strategic vision. I constantly see the appearance of the company Seqirus. However, the company seems not to fall under CSL but be in collaboration. It is confusing to the reader about what relationship Seqirus and CSL share. The letter should have included an explanation of the two companies' relationship. Lastly, there is no full name of the acronym CSL, and therefore, without outside research, the reader may be unaware of which company the report is discussing.
Yes, the CEO commentary gave me confidence in the company's direction and future. Also, they did inspire me to become an investor in the company. The company is not afraid to take risks and operate outside its comfort zone. In conjunction with other companies working in the vaccine manufacturing field, CSL has developed a vaccination that can help deal with the condition that has long been devastating in the medical field; kidney transplant rejection. The company outlines its strategic vision clearly, making it easy for all stakeholders to get a clear view of what the company is looking to achieve. With their continued investments across the globe, I know my money is safe.
The company also makes wise investments. For example, they have acquired the Vitaeris monoclonal antibody at its late stages. Therefore, they do not need to spend money on research, development, and testing the vaccine. Also, the company has leased out its Switzerland bio-manufacturing facility to Thermo Fisher, a company that is an expert in bio-manufacturing. By doing so, CSL can leverage their internal investment in other areas while still earning profits from their Switzerland bio-facility. The company is well aware of how to make intelligent investments, and I would not be opposed to making investments.
Yes, there was some critical...
