A good tittle for this dashboard would be; “Are we bending the curve?”. A look at the John Hopkins data visualization shows the number of confirmed infections in 10 countries, namely; South Korea, Russia, Vietnam, Germany, Turkey, United Kingdom, Netherlands, United States, Japan, and France. The number of confirmed cases seems to be low between June 202 and January 2021. I wonder whether the low infection number can be explained by the fact that most of these countries were in lockdown with restricted movement? There was a slight rise in cases in the United States compared to other countries in January. Did Trump’s supporters who took part in the demonstration and broke social distancing and "wear mask" mandates contribute to this scenario?
Between November 2021, generally, all countries mentioned above experienced a spike in infections before having a dramatic drop towards the end of January. In retrospect, the confirmed cases were on the rise due to the highly infectious Omicron variant. Similarly, the spike in the number of confirmed cases was marked by a dramatic fall as well. This makes me wonder if Omicron’s “vaccine-like" effect on infected people played a role here? If it is true, then the Omicron variant is responsible for the low infections rate afterward. The United States had the highest number of confirmed infections. Is it because the country has the largest population compared to other countries. While South Korea and Vietnam's number of confirmed cases continue to rise, Russia, France, Japan, and Turkey have declined. The observation makes me wonder whether vaccination rates in South Korea and Vietnam are lower than in...
