Did you know, the Egyptians were the first people who started using toothpaste back in 5000BC? And did you know that it is the same Egyptians that started making teeth brushing tools way back? We often brush our teeth with the modern toothpaste and toothbrushes and do not think of where it all started. Well then, it was the ancient civilizations of the Egyptians that began with cleaning teeth using paste and traditional toothbrushes of sticks and small twigs. Today, toothpaste is an essential product in most homes across the world, with variations in brands and types (Stetson Hills Dental. 2020). However, they all play the same critical role in cleaning and taking care of teeth, which is crucial for humans. However, knowing the history of toothpaste, how it came to be that we use fluoride toothpaste and not any other substance. This paper seeks to explain the history of toothpaste, tracking the developments through time, and postulating how it came to be that toothpaste is packed today.
Moreover, an exploration of the ingredients used since the first form of toothpaste was invented until now (Stetson Hills Dental. 2020). Consequently, in ancient civilizations, from the time of the Egyptians to Greeks and Romans, it is believed that used simple ingredients like salt. In contrast, the Greeks used more advanced and diverse ingredients composed of crushed bones and oyster shells in cleaning teeth.
