Compose a persuasive essay response (minimum 400 words, maximum 500 words) that provides and supports your opinion that it is or is not more logical for the immigrants in the Semple reading to learn Spanish rather than English. Also consider and address the following excerpts from the article:
"Laura, who asked that her last name not be revealed because she does not have legal immigration status, is among hundreds if not thousands of indigenous people from Latin America living in the New York region who speak neither the dominant language of the city, English, nor the dominant language of the broader Latino community, Spanish."
"These language barriers, combined with widespread illiteracy, have posed significant challenges to their survival, from finding work to gaining access to health care, seeking help from the police and getting legal redress in the courts."

America’s immigration laws allow the president to invite almost a million immigrants each year to reside in our great country legally. Almost a million. We welcome legal immigrants. Illegal immigration is an entirely different topic.

Your response should be a minimum of 400 words. The Works Cited page is not included in the word count.
