Select two social media business accounts (from the same industry) from two separate social media platforms, for example, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. 
I think Progressive Insurance and Geico Insurance would be good accounts to compare.

NOTE: Since Coca-Cola and Pepsi were used in the example, you may not use these two companies for your essay.
Write a 750- to 1,050-word essay in which you accomplish the following: 
Define social media
Discuss how each of the two accounts you selected attempts to capture new followers, engage existing followers, and influence culture.
Discuss similarities between the two accounts.
Discuss differences between the two accounts.
Discuss how the platforms influence the content used by the accounts.
Use at least two correctly cited quotes or paraphrased information from the week’s readings.Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines. 
For in-text citations, simply use the social media handle as the author name.

Social connections have been existing ever since the world has learned about communication (Safko, 2010). The exchanges of messages and interpretations have been going around to relay each other's thoughts and ideas. Since the beginning, there have been many ways that people used to communicate like writings on the wall, body language, sign language, signs and symbols, letters, etc. To this date, these communication systems are still being used and developed. They have become the foundation of a more complex and wide-reaching mode of communication: social media. Since the rise of digital technology, the exchange of messages and information has gradually become more convenient and accommodating. Social media are platforms of any kind that make use of digital technology to reach people (Safko, 2010). The platforms may be for social interactions (Facebook), messaging (Messenger), photo/video/audio sharing (Youtube), marketing (applies to all social media), or even job hunting (LinkedIn). These platforms find and connect people to what or who they want to know or see. They may even suggest where a person may want to go.
Two of the most famous social media platform are Twitter and Instagram. Both Twitter and Instagram are for social interactions where people may share their photos and videos along with a caption -- what tells about the person's post or thoughts about the post. Twitter allows people to post on a minimal number of characters with or without photo or video attached (Twitter; Safko, 2010). Instagram, on the other hand, is designed for photo/video sharing with or without a caption (Instagram). Both platforms have direct messages where you can send a personal message to an account.

More than social interactions, social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram have also become marketing strategies of different industries. They have turned to social media to promote and expand their businesses where customers/consumers are easily found. Insurance companies Progressive and Geico are among the business industries that make use of social media platforms to reach and attract people. Both companies have Twitter and Instagram accounts where the post updates and share information that would capture the attention of the potential market.
