The use of cellphones by drivers, while driving, is a widespread practice that poses grave danger to drivers and pedestrians. Using a cellphone distracts a driver by reducing their awareness on the road. Usually, a driver may text, call, or surf the internet when driving. This action exposes people to the risks of a road crash. That is why many road accidents have been blamed on cellphone use. Cellphone use while driving should be banned to reduce road crashes.
Cellphone use increases the chances of causing an accident. Cellphones cause drivers to remove their eyes on the road. They may concentrate on replying to a text or reading a notification. This action causes one to fail to see any oncoming vehicle or pedestrians. For example, I once hit a cyclist just because I was in a rush to text my friend that I was almost there. I took my eyes off the road for about 10 seconds which made me not notice a cyclist on my left. Although the cyclist sustained minor injuries, it taught me the vital lesson of never using my cellphone when driving. The incident further illustrates the dangers of removing your eyes off the road even for a few seconds.
