Self-Reflection Essay Students Name Institutional Affiliation When people say that drug addiction can be a huge challenge in the family setup, I understand precisely what they mean. I was a victim some years ago when my mother was falling into depression and she turned into drugs. A lot of families have broken up as a result of drug addiction. In a situation where one or both of the parents become a drug addict, it is the children that suffer most. Some of them even end up in the streets or in foster care. However, I am grateful that my mother’s drug addiction was curbed before things could get worse for us. Based on the theme of a family setup, it is the wish of every child to have a peaceful and a complete family where they can express their needs without the fear of being neglected. During that time, this was not the case in our family. Two months before my mother went into rehab, and my father was almost filling for a divorce. All I could recall is me crying myself to sleep due to the thought of what could happen to me once my parents were separated. To make it worse, I could see that my mother was not in a position to take care of us. That meant we could live with my father. Out of the little knowledge that I had, I knew that this could break my mother heart more and eliminate any chances of her recovery. Those two months seemed like years to me. The loving family that I once had, was now a setup that no child could wish to grow up in. At times, my father could talk to me about how my mother was going to recover, and everything would be back to normal again. However, some days seemed dark for him to even look at me. He could come back from work and head straight to be bed without saying a word. This had been a few days before he decided to file for a divorce. I will always be grateful to one of my uncles who talked him into talking my mother in a rehabilitation center. At first, he was hesitant about doing it due to the financial constrains that we had. Little did he know that t...
