Asking for a salary increment is not an easy task, and neither someone wishes to be paid less below his/her services. It may take months or years for some people to get a salary increase. To ask for a salary increase, it is not wrong considering the performance an employee might be having. Even though the manger has workers’ records of work, the manager or the boss will still want to know the reason as to why an employee needs an increase. This requires proper preparation and negotiation strategies as the manager will need proof and valid reasons; however, close an employee is to him/her.
Timing is essential. Getting a salary increase does not come while seated; one has to be proactive. The employee needs to create a chance to meet the manger to express his/her desire when the manager has free time. If the employee is unable to cultivate free time, they can make friendship with the chief of staff and the managers’ secretary to find the appropriate time. This should be a time when both of you are free from obstacles such as work and family affairs. During these preparations, have professional discussions with potential recruiters. This builds professionalism and confidence (Bishop, 2016).
The venue can be in a conference hall or can book a coffee table in a nearby restaurant. Enough preparation for this meeting is very crucial; all possible proof should not be left behind. Proof includes the compliments made by fellow workers, positive figure sales, and a survey from companies on how they pay workers at your level. Make a copy in case the manager will need one.
