The article, “In U.S. Restaurants, Bars and Food Trucks, 'Modern Slavery' Persists,” discusses how hospitality industry has become a front for human trafficking. She claims that human trafficking is increasingly becoming a prevalent problem in the United States as compared to sex trafficking. According to her, the social problem is witnessed in over twenty-five businesses where the victims of labor trafficking are brought into the country to work in lure of jobs, legal migration or romantic relationships. Further, she stresses that these victims continually offer these services out of fear of deportation and threats of harming of their families. She concludes by asserting that traffickers are participants in large criminal organizations and the cases are likely to be higher in the restaurant businesses. The article characterizes the issue of human trafficking in the food industry as a prerequisite for both sexual and labor exploitation.
