During the just-ended session of this academic calendar, students have tackled different styles and techniques of writing. These techniques included academic writing, multi-source academic writing, argumentation and persuasive writing.
In academic writing, students broke down ideas using deductive reasoning. This is formal communication that indicates what a writer thinks and the reasons or evidence for that thinking.
Multi-source academic writing follows the same kind of deductive reasoning in essence and practice. However, it offers reference to a wide range of sources as evidence for a writer’s thoughts and ideas.
Argumentation has however provided students with a process of systematic reasoning. This reasoning provides the support for student’s actions and ideas, or theories during the academic discourse.
Lastly, persuasive writing techniques have encouraged non-fiction writing that demands a careful choice of words. A writer’s arguments have to be logical and provide a cohesive summary that makes sense to all readers.
