1. What is the main reason the FDA has made this recommendation? What types of adverse events have occurred with belladonna use? What alternate recommendations has the American Academy of Pediatrics offered for teething babies?
To provide comfort to infants growing their first teeth, some parents provide them with teething products. The FDA, however, has recommended parents not to use teething relief products containing belladonna because of multiple reports of adverse events occurring to infants who were given these products. Mothers have reported that their babies have experienced seizures and some also died during the period of use.
Belladonna, also called deadly nightshade, is known to be a toxic substance which may be harming the babies. Although investigations are still ongoing and proofs have yet to be made, the American academy of Pediatrics advised that parents use safer measures to provide relief to their children. Alternative measures may be gentle rubbing or massaging of the infant’s gums with the finger, and the use of cool teething rings. Clean, wet and cool wash cloths may also be given to them to chew on CITATION Scu17 \l 13321 (Scutti, 2017)

2. What benefits will this goal lead to? Discuss policies/ approaches Finland has already enacted to help reach this goal.
Finland’s aim to be tobacco free by 2040 is for the health of its citizenry. People may also save a lot of money from the reduction or elimination of tobacco use. To be able to reach this goal, it has come up with several policies which are showing good results.
Policy-makers have adopted strategies which showed improvements in the reduction of tobacco use in other countries such as imposing higher taxes for tobacco selling and prohibition of smoking tobacco in public.
To speed up the process of reducing tobacco use, however, they have come up with more creative ways of restricting tobacco and other related products. One is banning people to smoke even in private cars. Residents in a neighborhood may also apply for a smoking ban on their neighbor if the neighbor’s cigarette smoke reaches their own private space.
Since they also want a long-term result of this policy, they want to reduce the number of young people “picking up” the habit of smoking by eradicating anything associated with tobacco smoking. They started banning the selling of sweets and chocolates that have similar shapes as cigarettes or pipes. Moreover, stores who use discount cards cannot provide discounts on such products. The use of e-cigarettes are also not encouraged and so they have put some restrictions on the sales of such so as not to make it publicly available CITATION Sen17 \l 13321 (Senthilingam, 2017).
