Good morning and thank you for giving me the audience for this presentation. As we all know, global warming ensues when carbon dioxide accumulates in the atmosphere. Carbon mineralization is an evolving tactic to extract carbon dioxide from the air and keep it in the form of carbonate minerals like magnesite or calcite. Mineralization happens naturally during weathering of silicate materials and rocks rich in calcium and magnesium (Kelemen et al., 2020). The rocks are rich in magnesium and calcium, predominantly peridotite, which creates the earth's upper mantle, and basaltic lava formed by fractional melting of the upper mantle.
A reaction of carbon dioxide and minerals that contain high levels of calcium and magnesium takes place during carbon mineralization to form carbonates like dolomite, calcite, quartz, and magnesite. The first way that solid storage can be accomplished is; ex-situ carbon mineralization—transportation of solid reagents to the carbon dioxide capture site, then reacts through gas or fluids with a high level of carbon dioxide.
