Written by Edgar Allan Poe, The Bells is one of those few poems that we can interpret in a variety of ways, the most effective of which is the reflection of the sound that bells are making and the emotions evoked from this sound. Starting from the decency and elegance of youth to the pain of old age, this poem is a powerful representation of life. The song titled Red Right Hand conveys the same kind of message. The Bad Seeds and Nick Cave presented this 1994 song and first appeared on the album Let Love In. Initially, the song ran over six minutes; afterward, a condensed version of nearly 4.46 minutes was released.
This dark, ominous alternative rock track begins with the lines “take a little walk to the edge of town, go across the tracks, where the viaduct looms, like a bird of doom,” and draws our attention to some of the secrets that are lying in the border fires and the humming wires. The singer them continues singing the song while claiming that “hey man, you know, you are never coming back.” It is the same message that was delivered in The Bells: when a person reaches his old-age, or his soul travels away, it is impossible for him to revert the time or the moments.
If someone is alive, according to this song, he should be living his life happily with his family, but once he dies, he will become a white-colored soul that many people will not be able to see or feel.
