Executive Summary
Name:
Institution
1. The purpose of the program or project
Approximately 1.3 million persons of the 8.6 million infected with Tuberculosis in the world died in the year 2012 according to World health organization. In the spate of such deaths, WHO has asked the responsible disease control commission to prepare an executive report articulating the requisite measures adopted to counter and check the prevalence and mortality of TB in the country. Following these demands and as a member of the commission, I would like to propose a program that is prospectively effective in abating the spread of TB in the country. In agreement with the Millennium Development Goals of the World Health Organization (WHO), we seek to reduce prevalence of the disease. This is attainable by utilizing the novel knowledge of TB’s epidemiology with regards to its resistance to current TB drugs and reduce the prevalence rate from the current 20% to less than 10% by 2015 (Southwick, 2007).
2. The target population or audience
The program seeks to promote good health to all people around the world, through implementing the best strategies to fight diseases. However, it is worth noting that the program chiefly targets all persons infected with HIV/AIDS. These are persons who are highly predisposed to the infection due to a repressed immune system, and who have lost their hopes due to the illness. TB is mainly attributed to immune deficiency which could also result from a conglomerate of causes such as diabetes, malnutrition, advanced age, end-stage kidney disease and immunosuppressive drugs. It is a common knowledge that TB is a curable disease especially when detected in its early stages. Despite the fact that tuberculosis is a preventable disease, it is evident that its control and spread in the population in persons with HIV has been excruciatingly slow. The control and spread of the disease has witnessed slow progress coupled with the emergence of drug resistant strains that are now jeopardizing the Millennium Development Goals. It is evident through research that the reason for this slow progress is as a result of TB patients under medication, especially those with HIV, failing to complete their dosage prescribed to them (Southwick, 2007).
3. The benefits
Several benefits will be noticed, especially to the targeted population, that is, those infected with HIV/AIDS. For instance, the proposed program will ensure that TB patients are followed up on their medication even from their homes. This will be achievable through the use of modern technology and the internet utilized by the newly developed software program. This will see to it that these patients are regularly monitored on their dosage intake throughout their medication to ensure 100% compliance. This will eliminate the issue of drug resistant strains due to incomplete medication. The new generation drug that has been developed that incorporated antiretroviral and TB drugs into one tablet, will remove the exhaustion by patients of taking excessive tablets that is languorous (Chaisson & Martinson, 2008). The incessant doctor appointments that require TB patients visiting medical premises regularly for inspection is resolved in this program. This is true since diffe...
