What are the principal components of an effective performance appraisal system?
According to Phillips & Phillips (2016), performance appraisals are very important to an organization as well as the employees. For the performance appraisals to prove their efficiency, there must be essential components in play, and they include a very clear process of performance appraisal, which should not be overestimated if precision in terms of results is to be achieved. More so, the process has to be very transparent from the side of the employer. The second component of an effective performance appraisal is that the standards have to be equally applied to all employees, and must be objective. Thirdly, the performance appraisal has to be a review in such a way that the employees have to be aware of whatever is being evaluated in the appraisal process. The fourth component of the performance appraisal is that it has to serve as an improvement tool. Other components of a performance appraisal include allowing for employee feedback and a proper action plan to act on the issues identified.
