Plagiarism and the Importance of Citing the Sources

from Part 3 The study of plagiarism and citation in this class has impacted my knowledge of these topics in the following many ways. Firstly, I now know well what plagiarism is and the need for proper referencing in all of my academic work to avoid plagiarism. This is because plagiarism may lead to getting an automatic fail or a lower grade for a student in the course they are pursuing, the student may also get probation, suspension, or even expulsion from that institution of learning, there are also legal consequences involved. I have also known that citing my various sources of information allows the person reading my work to check on my usage of the different source materials, the person reading my work can also advance on my topic by further reading on it and, it allows the reader to also be able to establish the authority and also the credibility of my ideas and knowledge and also allows the student to get credit concerning their work. Also, I have known that plagiarism is the use of another person's thoughts, ideas, words in your presentation without acknowledging them, the submission of the exact same paper for two different classes even when the paper is your very own, the copying of any content straight from a book, handout, journal among many others. I have also known how to cite my sources properly and how to integrate them well into my work by either paraphrasing or quoting to avoid plagiarism. I have known also the various types of plagiarism, which include self-plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, and global plagiarism, how to detect the various types of plagiarism, and the various plagiarism checkers. There is the need for students to plan well during their studies to avoid the many causes as to why students plagiarize their work which include improper time management skills.   (308 Words) from
