This Assignment will measure your understanding of several Adlerian personality theories.
This week you will complete a 2-3-page expository paper exploring the role of Adler’s Birth Order theory, relating it to a scenario. Then you will discuss an Adlerian concept to show how it is present in the given scenario.
Scenario: A seven-year old male child has been brought to your office due to acting out in the home. The child is disobeying, having temper tantrums, and hitting his siblings. The family has recently adopted two female children who are 4 and 10 years old. Complete an essay addressing the following elements:
Summarize the scenario, focusing on the 7-year-old child.
Explain the child and the situation relating it to Adler’s concept of birth order.
Describe an Adlerian concept and discuss how it may be impacting the situation (e.g. inferiority complex, superiority complex, aggression, social interest).
Title page: Provide your name, title of assignment, course and section number, and date.
Body: Answer all the questions in complete sentences and paragraphs.

Adler's Birth Order Theory
Adler argued that individuals' behaviors and personalities could be compressively understood by interacting with other people. He believed that all human beings were motivated by goals and a fundamental inclination to be superior, driven by feeling inferior. He used the birth order theory to explain how the family environment and interactions shaped a child's behavior and thoughts to understand the human personality( Aldler, 2013). In addition, he argued that one's rank in the family could and does affect a child's personality and specific traits. Thus, humans strive for superiority and power to replace the feeling of inferiority.
In the scenario, the seven-year-old boy was the only child in the family. He was the only child for seven years, meaning he was the center of attention and got everything he wanted. He might have developed a self-centered character associated with the superior child syndrome. Also, his interaction mostly was with his parents. The parents adopting two female children created a conflict of emotions between the boy child. One female child was older than him and the other younger than him making him the second born child in the family. The boy was not used to competing for attention in the family; thus, introducing the two girls made him feel like he had to compete to get the attention ( Marano,2017). As a result, the boy had an emotional imbalance, and throwing tantrums and hitting the siblings was a defense mechanism of the subconscious mind yearning for the attention he once had. The ten-year-old girl would be the firstborn child, meaning she was superior to the boy.
