The negotiations of the South African government and the USA on the issues of patent rights and helping the South African people are the main issues discussed in this study. The South African government believes people with AIDS require attention from the parliament and other stakeholders. The high spread of the virus across South Africa is alarming. Notably, South Africa is a darling (close ally) to the USA, and they are seeking to override the patent rights and make these drugs from the country at subsidized prices (Carlos Maria, 2020). However, the TRIPS (Treaty Intellectual Property) prohibits copying the production rights (WTO, n.d.). I believe the South African government has a positive thought for its people. It would be absurd to imagine people dying when the government cannot solve these problems. However, it is against the laws of patent rights to do copyrights (Frontline Aids, 2019).
