A decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on June 30 2021 led to the release of actor/comedian Bill Cosby. Many people were stunned by the turn of events in Cosby’s case given the amount of evidence against him. Although the Supreme Court decision has disappointed many, there are those who are happy with the decision. According to Cosby’s supporters, the ruling reflects justice for all Americans irrespective of race or color. Cosby’s many victims do not, however, share the same opinion. To them, another sexual predator has been freed without taking accountability for his actions. In this paper, I compare and contrast two articles that have covered Cosby’s recent release.
In the first article, the reporter includes various videos that help explain the dynamic of Cosby’s case. In the opening video, there is a focus on Cosby’s own reactionary messages after his release. Also, in this video, the reader gets to see how different parties in the case have responded to Cosby’s release. In another video, additional NBC reporters provide a description of the circumstances that led to Cosby’s release. From these videos, it is clear that there are mixed reactions to Cosby’s release. Even though the law has been applied, people, except Cosby and his supporters, seem unsatisfied with the decision. In the second article by AP News, there are no videos included.
