Ryan White was born on the sixth of December in nineteen seventy-one in Kokomo, Indiana, in the United States of America. Ryan White was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in nineteen eight, four, and that time the disease was not fully known and even how it would be spread from one person to another. Ryan White became a national symbol after contracting the disease at the age of thirteen and was given six months to live. One sad fact is how Ryan contracted HIV/AIDS when he was still a very young teenage boy. He was born with a rare inherited disorder known as hemophilia A. This disorder causes the blood system not to clot because of its capacity not to produce "factor eight." When a person suffering from hemophiliac has an injury to the body, internal bleeding can be life-threatening. There has been no cure for hemophiliac, but the doctors treat the bleeding by administering factor eight to the body to aid with the clotting process. In those years, when there were no cases of HIV/AIDS reported, many blood donations that were conducted on patients were not tested.
Unfortunately, when Ryan went for one of the injections, he got infected with the human immunodeficiency virus. The doctors had earlier predicted that he would only live for six months after he fell ill with a serious illness, but he soon recovered and lived for the other five more years. Ryan White was a student at Western Middle School in Russiaville, Indiana. Unfortunately, after he was diagnosed with the human immunodeficiency virus, the Western School Corporation's superintendent did not let him resume his studies. He instead told him that the only way he could attend his seventh-grade classes through a telephone. The teachers, other students, and school officials insinuated that he might spread the disease by contact, such as handshake to the rest of the students.
Experience
Ryan White's experience with the disease was challenging, especially because he was suffering from the disease when HIV/AIDS was not prevalent. After being shunned from attending classes like the rest of the students, Ryan took to court, and luckily, he was able to win the case. He resumed going to school; however, the rest of the students bullied him, which made his life extremely difficult. Life was not just hard for Ryan; his parents were also on the receiving end of it all. Some people broke the windows of their homes, and the cashiers at the supermarket would not agree to attend to Ryan's mother, Jeanne White Ginder. The White family could not take any more discrimination, and they decided to move to a nearby town, Cicero, Indiana, in nineteen eighty-seven. Ryan was enrolled in a new high school known as Hamilton Heights. Unlike his previous school, the principal at his new school welcomed him by giving him a handshake, which positively influenced the student body to engage in HIV/AIDS discussions. Ryan White's life took a different turn at his new high school.
