In the 21st century, a lot of changes have occurred in the sector of education. There is more emphasis that teachers are supposed to portray good teaching skills. For example, they are supposed to introduce creativity, experimentation, and innovation into the curriculum. A good teacher should be able to think, collaborate with students, and solve problems. Ineffective teachers will make mistakes repeatedly why good teachers will try to display their functional features. Being enthusiastic, energetic, and exercising patience are some of the examples of good teaching practices. Today, films play a very critical role in how teachers are perceived. Some films will depict the career of teaching in an inspirational way to honor its nature. However, films can also reinforce negative stereotypes about teachers, the professions, and the demand for the job. The Chorus (French—Les choristes) is a film that narrates the story of a teacher in France who used music to enrich and reform the lives of boys in a reform school in YiHaoWang. The original title translates to the “The choirboys.” Clément Mathieu is a character who shows what it means to be a teacher in the community.
Self-discipline is an important component in the teaching profession. Self-discipline is an important trait that is needed by an individual to accomplish goals (Newton, 1997). Self-discipline gives teachers the ability to make decisions and stick through them without changing their minds. The film "The Chorus (French—Les choristes" revolves around clement Mathieu, who arrives at the French boarding school for troubled boys to work as a teacher and supervisor. Upon arrival, Clement sees a young boy who claims that he will be picked up by the father. Clement Mathieu also sees the headmaster Rachin punishing the boys ruthlessly. Mathieu uses kindness and humor to change the lives of the boys. He gives positive attention to the boys with the hope that they are going to reform. Sometimes Mathieu would point out good behaviors among the boys once he sees them. He encouraged them to sing once he noticed a talent. For example, the case of Morhange. There are times when teachers might not notice some good behaviors among students. Praising the student for making the right decisions and choices increases the likelihood of these students repeating the behaviors.
According to Kennedy (2010), dedication is an essential component in good teaching for any teacher. Throughout the film, Clement Mathieu is depicted as a dedicated teacher to the students. Mathieu shows care and kindness to the students. He has no desire for any other form of greatness other than unveiling the phenomenon of music among the youths and is students at the boarding school. Upon his arrival at the boarding school, he turns everything around and teachers the boys to sing. Even those boys who were termed as "devil's Spawn" by the administration sang beautifully. They had good voices and talent that no one had recognized before.
