Online or internet privacy has become an increasingly important concept recently with both companies and individuals seeking ways to ensure their data is protected at all times. Techopedia defines internet privacy as “the privacy and security level of personal data published via the internet.” The site continues to state that internet privacy is “a broad term that refers to a variety of factors, techniques and technologies used to protect sensitive and private date, communications, and preferences.” Currently, information is considered as one of the most expensive assets in the world and everyone is trying to ensure its safety. Cases of identity theft have become increasingly rampant nowadays and with big companies like Sony falling victim to the tricks and maneuvers of hackers, it is only fitting that everyone seeks to enhance their security measures.
One of the ways in which hackers harness or steal information from victims is through credit cards. Whenever people transact online using their credit cards, they somehow put themselves at risk of having their identity stolen especially if they do not have the necessary measures in place.
While online, I always ensure that I protect myself and that any loopholes which could be exploited are sealed. First of all, I am always careful when am asked to reveal or fill in personal details. One’s personal information can be quickly stolen which subsequently leads to identity theft. Some of the ways I use to protect my personal information include verifying URLs.
