Ways to Get Better Attention of Your Audience
A good presenter must capture and maintain the attention of the audience through several ways (McCastler, 2016). Some of the effective ways through which a presenter can capture their attention is allowing them to take some breaks especially if the speech is long or is expected to take long time. Breaks allow the audience to stretch themselves, adjust their sitting positions, refresh themselves with drinks and perform other activities that help them to avoid dozing off. The presenter can also tell captivating stories to the audience to break the monotony of the main subject. Stories can also be effective in elaborating other important points of the main subject. Interacting with the audience improves levels of attention. Interaction can be through asking random rhetoric questions or taking questions from the audience. A presenter can also use illustrations, videos, quotes, statistics, etc. to capture the attention of his/her audience. Infusing such materials into your speech breaks the monotony of narration.
