The Kingdom of This World
The characters of Ti-Noel and Soliman in The Kingdom of This World of Alejo Carpentier have many differences. Though both are slaves but they play different roles. Through the eyes of Ti-Noel, Carpentier records the devastation of the black regime in an orgy of voodoo, race hatred, and fantastic grandeurs of false elegance. Ti-Noel also represents the liberating spirit of African religion and culture. Soliman, however, has been introduced in the novella as the slave who received the fortune of massaging the body of Pauline. The difference between Ti-Noel and Soliman is that the latter lived a lavish life when he ended up in Europe.
