Part A: Career options for security professionals
Security professionals can venture into private investigation to offer services to a variety of clients. As a private investigator, the individual gets to investigate a particular subject in detail to come up with inferences. Dependent on the case under investigation, the professional would require the necessary skills to determine the motives, causes, or culprits responsible (Smith, Schmalleger, & Siegel, 2017, p.155). The investigation process involves interviewing different people to gather more information about the problem, including background checks, uncovering clues from records or materials available, and conducting surveillance to determine culpability. Apart from that, a private investigator also collects evidence to enable him/her to mount a viable case and close it eventually. This involves apprehending shoplifters and any employees that may be involved in malicious activities leading to losses for the retailer. In this profession, they can be involved in the different steps of preparation, planning, prevention, mitigation, and recovery before and after a disaster. Before a disaster, security professionals may be involved in intelligence collection and sharing, screening and searching for potential leads, and public awareness and warning (Smith, Schmalleger, & Siegel, 2017, p.238). During the disaster, they can be involved in the coordination of activities, rescue operations and situational assessment. These activities require individuals with the appropriate experience to deal with mass events that may be traumatizing. Security professionals are well trained to react to such situations, hence their experiences can help in emergency disaster management to reduce the number of casualties.
