Introduction
The phenomenological type of research usually focus much on the personal perceptions of individuals and their responses based on specific circumstances they have gone through. It relies on such feedback to come up with some sort of descriptive analysis of the same. Ethnography entails a kind of research whereby the researcher places much focus on a selected group of people with a certain common trait of characteristic. Grounded theory on the other hand, is more of a trial and error system that works based on certain assumed aspects, which are then gradually tried and tested to come up with s solid precept. These different types of research have their own similarities as well as points of departure.
Similarities and Differences
A major similarity between these types of research is that the method of analysis for each of them is the same. The collection of data for analysis for all of them revolves around personal or real life human experiences and interactions. This is to imply that they are all a subset of human socialization. These real life experiences are quite important because they are subjective, an important ingredient in the determination of the data’s authenticity and effectiveness later on. Other aspects such as the identification of common themes as well as the gathering of impressions are also part of the commonality between all the three methods.
There is a difference however, since phenomenological approach aims at the identification and deeper understanding of a given situation in a holistic manner. It revolves around understanding the human mind, how it makes sense of the various happenings around as well as how it makes certain deductions from the same experiences (Al-Busaidi, 2008).This is unlike ethnographic research which essentially focuses on the perceptions and reactions from a wide pool of individuals within a group or team setup.
