Understanding the relationship between a child's development and the tools and techniques used to assess and treat him is essential for anyone. It allows the healthcare provider to understand better how to ensure the child's development and improve their well-being. In this paper, the author would like to utilize Erickson's Psychosocial Theory in understanding the development of a school-aged child (aged 5 - 12). This includes the physical assessments that should be made relative to the milestones presented in Erikson's theory. Nonetheless, the author believes that the assessment should include an insight into the child's capacity to 'bring back to the community' in line with Erikson's milestones.
Physical Assessment
The physical assessment for a school-aged child includes using a detailed assessment with the child himself as help. Generally, the assessment should include (1) concerns to discuss, (2) Family History, (3) Medications, (4) Allergies, (5) Social history, (6) nutritional assessment, (7) developmental assessment, among others CITATION The17 \l 1033 (The University of Texas - Medical Branch, 2017). By including these generic assessment questionnaires towards the child's physical assessment, any lapses that could potentially pose risks to the child's health and well-being could be addressed early.
