Franklin Roosevelt and Adolph Hitler both came to power in 1933. They found themselves in charge of nations still suffering from the consequences of World War 1 and the Great Depression. Unemployment in the US was nearly 25%, while nearly one-third of Germany's workforce had been idled.
Americans and Germans had opted for new leadership in 1933 and were now looking to their new leaders for solutions, and perhaps a new vision of the future. Both FDR's Inaugural address and Hitler's first address as Chancellor of Germany have been analyzed for their similarities and differences. Now it's our turn!
In 2 pages, do the following:
1.Read both speeches and give an assessment of what these two leaders thought was the cause of the problems their countries faced. Provide quotes to support your view.
2.Using quotes from both speeches, tell how each leader intended to deal with:
a.Unemployment
b.Banking, finance and in general, the economy
c.Agriculture
d.Foreign Policy
3.Finally, in a concluding statement, tell where think these leaders find common ground in terms of their proposed solutions, and what you think their vision is with regard to the power of their position.

Introduction
Franklin Roosevelt and Adolph Hitler were forerunners for their respective states. They set varying standards and principles and had confronted an identical economic catastrophe. Millions of people believe that Adolph Hitler was not as wise and responsible as Franklin Roosevelt, and it is evident from his speech (Kneeland, 2011).
Unemployment
Both Franklin Roosevelt and Adolph Hitler’s speeches have many similarities, especially when they claimed that the states were supposed to take serious actions and repair what had been broken internally. Hitler announced that he would “fix unemployment in three to four years” (Keith, 2001, p. 289). For this, he encouraged Germans to fight for their rights. Adolph Hitler believed in rehabilitating the working environment in one way or the other (Keith, 2001).
On the other hand, Franklin Roosevelt adapted for different ways to fix the issue of unemployment. According to the President, “the primary task is to put people to work” (Kneeland, 2011, p. 34). He did not support the idea of fighting for survival. Instead, he wanted Americans to go slowly and steadily to win the race. He introduced the idea of recruiting candidates based on their qualifications and experience (Kneeland, 2011).
Banking and Finance
According to Hitler, “the Government seeks the guarantee to avoid any experiments which could endanger the currency” (Keith, 2001, p. 293). He believed in providing the favorable conditions for commerce and trade, and to save his people, Adolph Hitler set a budget and took initiatives to build commercial buildings as soon as possible. He wanted new bridges and roads to be built and considered them a way to strengthen the economy of the country (Keith, 2001).
