During the signing of the Versailles treaty, Germany was blamed a lot regarding the issues surrounding world war one. As a result, a punishment was laid on them that would, in turn, hurt their economy. Among them is the fact that Britain and France would rule germen as one of the bankruptcy states. This means that Germany would not be able to make major economic decisions without external interference. Also, Germany was required to pay $32 and 132billion gold Reich marks. These payments came at a time when Germany was facing a weak economic situation. Therefore, this would continue weakening their economy.
All the property in abroad that belonged to the Germans would be annexed while preventing the Germans from trading with people from the civilized world. Their natural resources would be controlled by external powers such as the annexing of Duisburg because Germany had failed to pay the reparations as agreed on the treaty. The guilt clause resulted to shame among the Germans hence leading to political unrest that affected their economy.
