Information sharing is critical, especially during an emergency such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and fire outbreaks. Through social media, government institutions, and other private sectors who witness incidents can provide timely, geographic-based information to the public. However, these institutions are unable to communicate on time because government authorities must approve the communication.
The government authorities should decrease the communication approval process to allow emergency response organizations to provide timely alerts, warnings, and updates about specific incidents to the public. The state should use less time to scrutinize the information and filter the unwanted pictures or videos then allow these institutions to communicate through their social media.
Early approval of communication by government authorities will help the emergency response organization to gather and analyze actual-time emergency information provided directly by social media handlers within the country (Houston et al., 2015). Another advantage of prompt approval of information by state authorities will enable the incident response team to form community forums in social media platforms quickly.
