Compare the Physical Assessments Among School-Aged Children
Physical development assessment of a child refers to obtaining information about the growth and development of children. It is an essential exercise that helps in assessing the progress of a child's development. The data collected for the child’s assessment include language, cognitive, psycho-motor, approaches to learning, and socio-emotional approaches. This information helps the assessor track the growth of the child in all areas. This assessment also helps identify children with special needs in need of special attention (Levy, 2015). Thorough assessment helps in identifying the best strategies to help address the developmental issue the child is facing.
The physical assessment encompasses the growth rate in children. Girls often grow faster than boys at around 2 inches annually for children between 6 and 12 years. School-going children gain weight at the rate of 41/2 to 61/2 pounds annually, with the average age of 6 years old being 46 pounds and a 12-year-old being 88 pounds. At the age of 6, milk teeth begin shedding off to pave the way for permanent ones (Levy, 2015). Children need regular dental examinations besides providing fluoride supplements in cases where water is not fluoridated. Sleep is another component that needs assessment, and a child should sleep between 8 to 12 hours a day. Parents and assessors should work together for the best developmental outcome for the child.
